After successful completion of the course, students are able to name and describethe biological and chemical basics necessary for the occupation (planning, operation, evaluation) with technical plants in water quality management as well as the relevant biological and chemical processes taking place in water bodies and to carry out related simple chemical and biological calculations.
Chemical and physical properties of water and their impact on water technologies
Chemical basics: stoichiometric calculations; properties of gases; chemical equilibrium, neutralisation, precipitation - soluability product; redox reactions; reaction kinetics; surface active substances; catalysis; adsorption; ion-exchange;
Biological basics: morphology of bacterial cells; principles of microbial metabolism; influencing factors for bacterial growth; heterotrophic and autotrophic bacteria; biological indicator systems in surface water, drinking water and wastewater quality assessment;
