After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • to analyse waste management systems in developing countries
  • to apply the method of material flow analysis to waste management systems and to interpret the results

Subject of course

  1. Introduction into technology transfer and solid waste management
  2. Technical features of waste mangement in South East Europe: waste collection systems, waste generation and composition patterns, waste disposal practices
  3. EU legislation and the future of waste management in South East Europe
  4. Illustration and analysis of the status quo of solid waste management by material flow analysis (MFA): case study Serbia
  5. Student's work and presentation: design, illustration, and assessment of scenarios for future waste management in Serbia
  6. Case studies on successful and unsuccessful technology transfer in the field of solid waste management in Serbia

Teaching methods

  • Critical discussion of case studies
  • Application of material flow analysis to waste management systems
