Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • analyze the dynamics and stability of hydraulic structures
  • apply the basic equations of free and forced vibrations
  • dimension structures based on dynamic analysis
  • treat seismic risk

Subject of course

SDOF and MDOF systems - basics and governing equations, free and forced vibrations, arbitrary impact, the Duhamel Integral, response spectrum. Fluid body vibrations, the problem of Westergaard, flow-induced vibrations. Methods for dynamic structural analysis. Earthquakes - description, dynamic parameters of materials and soils. Hydraulic structures under earthquake excitation - modelling, problems and solution approaches: dams, reservoirs, pressure pipelines. The idea of seismic risk.
