Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • prepare soil samples for soil mechanical testing,
  • independently perform soil mechanical tests,
  • analyse tests,
  • describe limitations of each test.

Subject of course

Laboratory and field tests in earth works and ground engineering for soil investigation, design and calculation, site control etc.: water content, Atterberg limits, density, particle density, grain size distribution, unconfined compression test, permeability test, shear test, triaxial test, oedometer test (confined), proctor test, density index, ignition loss, tests on slurries

Teaching methods

Independent preparation of soil samples and execution of soil mechanical tests under supervision.
