Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe the connections and influences of geological conditions on the planning of road construction. They can estimate the impact of problem zones on construction time and costs based on geological specifications, deal with relevant standards and guidelines and read and interpret terrain data. In particular, they can explain the enormous importance of engineering geological preliminary investigations for construction projects.

Subject of course

The individual planning phases and their geological exploration depths; Exploration methods and their applications; Findings from exploration and implementation in planning, influence on route management, route optimization; geological data for planning and its application (regulations, standards, guidelines, guidelines, guidelines); Classification methods of the subsurface (hard rock, loose rock), profit solubility, tool wear; Influences of the geogenic background and the geological conditions on the structure geometry; Stability behavior; Tunneling, geological properties and mountain classification, as well as their influence on the propulsion classification; Influence of the hydrogeological conditions on the traffic route construction (mountain water, groundwater, hydraulic conditions); Underground mining / cavity construction; Mountain interaction - propulsion method, outbreak behavior, system behavior, choice of solving method; Influence of natural hazards (mass movements, stabilization measures, rockfall protection, etc.); Foundation of exposed structures, (bridges, cable car supports, lift supports, cable car stations); Consideration of geological conditions in the waterway construction, pipeline construction, power plant construction (river, storage power plants); Material management, consideration of the Landfill Ordinance and Federal Waste Management Plan; Examples Road construction, railway construction, subway construction, power plant construction;
