Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to design reinforced concrete bridges and prestressed concrete bridges and precalculate the dimensions of the most essential structural components.

Examination modalities

It is expected that students will attend the course. The personal attendance will be checked. If there is a good reason not to attend the course, 4 lecture or presentations units of 45 minutes may be missed.

During the semester each student or a team of two students will have to design a foot bridge of a research projekt. The grade will be based on the quality of the design, the presentations, the drawings and preliminary calculations.

Registration modalities

FIRST LECTURE 08.03.2022

The registration for the course has to be done using the TISS-system until March 2nd 2022, 16:00 hours. The number of participating students has to be restricted to 20 students in order to ensure the quality of the design projects. The selection of the participating students will be carried out according to the following criteria:


  1. Erasmus-students are encouraged to participate in the course. They should show their knowledge in the design of concrete structures by presenting material from their home university on March 3rd 2022, 16:00 – 18:00 hours at the Institut für Tragkonstruktionen- Betonbau (Stiege 2, 3. Stock). Erasmus students will be selected first, if they show sufficient knowledge in the design of concrete structures.
  2. The remaining places will be given to students, who have completed the course “Betonbau 2” (LVA. Nr.: 212.455) or an equivalent course at another university. Students will be ranked according to their grade and the achieved test results in the course “Betonbau 2”. Students, who have taken concrete design courses outside of TU Wien, should also present material from their previous university on March 3rd, 2022, 16:00 – 18:00 hours at the Institut für Tragkonstruktionen/Forschungsbereich Betonbau.
  3. Students with excellent grades in their undergraduate studies, who are participating in the course “Betonbau 2” in the summer semester 2022, might also be qualified for participation.


Participating students will be informed on March 4th 2022, 12:00 hours.
