Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to analyze traditional and contemporary industrial, commercial and public buildings and processes and to reproduce the findings in the context of a term paper.

Subject of course

SS2024 --> Excursion to Belgium (Brussels, KU Leuven, Ghent) - Topic: "Hybrid Urban Factory - Productive City"

The excursion to Belgium will take place from 14.04.2023 to 17.04.2023. There will be a deductible of €100 per person. After confirmation of participation in TISS, please pay the deductible to Ms. Isolde Tastel at the secretary's office: Secretariat (AF 02 06), main building, Stg 7, 2nd floor MO to DO from 09:30 to 13:30

Topic of the excursion "Productive City" with visits to industrial and production projects in Brussels, Leuven and Ghent.

ATTENTION: This year's industrial construction seminar with excursion will take place in cooperation with PROJEKTARBEIT Bauprozessmanagement . Integral Planning and Industrial Construction (210.010).

Contents of 210.010: 13.03. - 15.03.2024 Excursions in VIENNA on the topic "Hybrid Urban City - Productive City"
Day 1: Kick-Off Lecture and Workshop with Nina Rappaport (Yale School of Architecture) (in English)
Day 2: Excursion Ottakringer Brewery + Otto Bock
Day 3: Industrial building walk in Vienna + workshop at Gleisgarten 1120 Vienna (in English)Afterwards selection of 1-2 industrial buildings for analysis and elaboration. Topics are developed and selected in the workshop on day 3 - in combination with Belgian projects. Project work handed in at the end of June with an interim presentation.

Preference will be given to participants of both LVAs.

Teaching methods

Traditional and contemporary industrial, commercial and public buildings will be visited and analyzed during an interdisciplinary excursion.

Information to the term paper:

  • The term paper consists of a cover sheet and at least 10-15 A4 pages.
  • The term paper must be written in German or English language.
  • The term paper must be provided with source and image credits.
  • The term paper should not only summarize the innovative peculiarities, which are shown in the lectures, but also discuss them critically.
  • Your own opinion on this topic should be incorporated into the work by pointing out possible problems, proposing solutions and highlighting additional possibilities.
