Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to independently perform vibration measurements on building structures or components, including the associated digital measurement data evaluation. The sensors used for this work according to the following physical principles: inductive, piezoelectric, laser-based.

Subject of course

Measurement equipment for recording of time-dependent mechanical parameters(sensors, amplifiers, display of measured data, processing of recorded data). Experimental determination of natural frequencies and damping coefficients considering as example beam- and multistory frame structures by applying piezoelectric accelerometers and force transducers. Demonstration of passive vibration control considering a three story shear frame. Introduction in analyses of signals in the time and freqeuncy domain. Application of strain gauge technique. Introduction in computer-controlled vibration techniques(software: BEAM, LABVIEW).

Teaching methods

Presentation of the most important components of a measuring chain for structural dynamic measurements. Experimental determination of dynamic system parameters using the example of beam and multi-story frames.
