Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand different rock mechanics circumstances underground, distinguish different types of instability and are able to design an underground excavation based on a given project objective. 

Subject of course

In situ rock stress, intact rock: deformability, strength and failure, rock masses: deformability, strength and failure, rock mass classification, rock mechanics interactions, excavation principles, rock support, instability mechanisms, design of underground excavations

Teaching methods

In the introductory course, selected examples are discussed. Groups of two can freely choose one of the examples and work on it independently in the course of the semester.

If there are any questions, there will be a second appointment for clarification.
