Inhalt der Lehrveranstaltung

***Content Description***

1. Leadership Seminar (Walter Siebert):

In this workshop the students will experience various aspects of leadership. The main focus is on practical work. The students will have the opportunity to lead a group through problem solving tasks. The analysis of the process and reflection of the leader's practices will be discussed and the insight supported with theoretical input.

Method: Experience Based Training & Development (Experiential Learning; team tasks in the surrounding of the premises.)

The content will follow the needs of the students founding and developing a start-up company:
- Basic principles of leadership (clarity, feedback, consequences)
- How to create and develop a high performance team
- How to reach goals and gain results as a leader of a team

2. Conflict Management Seminar (Walter Siebert):

The part “Conflict Management” covers the topics theory, prevention and management of conflicts:

1.1 Conflicts - theory
- Definition, signs and development of conflicts
- Potential sources of conflicts
- Conflict-solving models and methods
- Escalation model for conflicts (Glasl)

1.2 Prevention of conflicts
- Communication rules ("Consider I am wrong") and identify sources of conflicts
- Develop a sensor for a conflict or signs of a conflict
- The SAKE-modell

- "Realise the conflict"
- Conflict solving communication

- Helpful tools

3. Human Resources for Start-ups Lecture (Lukas Rippitsch):

1. Part: Input-Session on „HR for Start-ups: Making the most of your team”
Method: Interactive lecture, discussion and practical examples
Objectives: Build-up knowledge about strategic HR, recruiting, employment and dismissal aspects in start-ups

2. Part: Case-study
Method: Individual preparation, discussion in small groups and solution in class
Objectives: Explore the management of growing human resources needs, including recruiting and retaining the right people, maintaining proper controls on quality and production and creating an environment that fosters innovation and creativity.

  • Provide an understanding of human resource challenges that small businesses face

  • Explore the challenges of managing staff in a creative work environment

  • Explore HR control systems and their implementation

3. Part: Entrepreneurship-Simulation: The Start-up Game

Method: Simulation and discussion of results

Objectives: This multi-player simulation places students into a variety of roles that explore the chaos and excitement of starting a new company:

  • Explore entrepreneurial strategies, focusing on valuation, determining an appropriate employee mix, matching strategies to early HR practices and equity retention;

  • Illustrate the dynamics involved in a startup and the qualities that separate a success from a failure;

  • Exercise strategic planning, hiring practices, growth management, creative problem solving and analytical skill sets and negotiation tactics in a competitive environment;

  • Provide an introduction or capstone to classes on entrepreneurship by exposing students to some of the complexity of entrepreneurial management.

***Lecturer***

Walter Siebert is trainer and consultant for 25 years with core competence in cooperation, leadership and change management. He is specialized in experience based training and development and has been working for major companies in 28 countries. He is lecturer at the Universität Wien and Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien for cooperation and experiential learning.

Lukas Rippitsch is managing partner of Speedinvest Heroes. Besides, he is a data specialist & attribution modelling advisor for Digitalisten GmbH. Before, he acted as director of operations & growth for Improove Inc.
