Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to analyse an individual problem in the field of Virtual- and Augmented Reality, to design an according solution and implement a prototypical application or artefact.

Subject of course

In this course, students will study individually a particular topic within Advanced VR/AR

Topics:

This year students will have to design a educational Mixed Reality/Augmented Reality application that will allow people to visualize and interact with the chosen topic areas. The application will help to understand and solve problems with the emphases on usability, ease of understanding, fun and impact on learning for the proposed application.

Applications can be either for learning mathematical, physics, chemistry or other scientific concepts.

Students are invited to propose their own project ideas.

The preferred development environment is Unity3D (C#) with Vuforia, with respective plugins, frameworks and IDEs, depending on the particular topic.

Teaching methods

In the first phase, a short written concept of the application or artefact is composed and discussed with the instructors. In the second phase, the hardware and software components are defined and implemented. Suitable lab equipment is provided and may be borrowed, if needed. In the final project phase, the prototype of the application or artefact will be evaluated and/or demonstrated and presented in a short demo-video.

Regular project meetings with the instructors are planned, to provide feedback and guidance.
