After successful completion of the course, students are able to demonstrate a knowledge and sound understanding of core theoretical approaches to the study of media and communication (including a historical view on media and its relatedness to culture and society)

The focus areas of the course will be: 

• Basic concepts of human communication
• Models of communication
• Signs and their usage
• Language/communication and social system/society
• Technological communication and digital media
• Media theories - basic concepts and selected issues
• Historical perspectives - media and social change
• Media usage in everyday life and organizational contexts

This course is a VU "Lecture and Exercise" and includes
- lectures
- group and plenary discussions
- readings etc.
- assignments (homeworks; portfolio; possibly specific tasks during lecture sessions)
- presentatons by students

Sessions: Tue 16-18 via Zoom (TUWEL || distance learning - until further notice)
First session: Tuesday, March 16, 16-18

Portfolio (homework) & portfolio exam, assignments (homworks + specific tasks during the lecture sessions), possibly presentation, active participation in the course during the course units, exam

Exams will be online-exams via TUWEL according to current knowledge.
If the CoViD-situation will change, exams may be conducted in form of on-site exams.
