Acquisition of basic knowledge of science and the operation of the scientific community; ability for autonomous literature search; basic skills of scientific writing (precise and cleanly structured presentation of a scientifically relevant topic and its context, correct references and citations); usage of scientific publishing tools (LaTeX); basic scientific presentation skills.
Also provides an overview of current computer engineering research topics and potential supervisors of Bachelor thesises, practicals and scientific projects at the contributing institutes/working groups (http://ti.tuwien.ac.at/teaching/ti-research-presentations).
Introduction to science and the operation of the scientific community in computer engineering (lecture block); overview of current research topics by professors from TI-related institutes/working groups. Selection and elaboration of a suitable topic (assigned or possible self-selected) within our major areas of expertise dependable distributed real-time systems, embedded / cyber-physical systems and VLSI Design.
Course setup: Preparation and writing of a literature survey for the chosen topic and a regular conference-style article in LaTeX, reviewing by other participants. Delivery of an oral presentation (using video beamer) under time constraints; discussion of the talk and the presentation style in the whole group.
