Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to analyse simple models in environmental and population economics and understand the interaction of environmental and population dynamics.

Subject of course

1. Interaction between population, environment and economic growth - a historical overview (demographic transition, environmental Kuznets curve)

2. macroeconomic modelling of the interaction between the economy and Environment and the economy and Population (exhaustible versus renewable resources, models with and without demographic age structure)

3. microeconomic concepts of environmental and population economics (external effects and market failure, public goods, tragedy of the commons)

4. environmental and population policies

5. sustainability of resource and population development
