After successful completion of the course, students are able to:
- present the importance of the field of applied bioinformatics for the field of biomedical engineering and life sciences.
- derive the biological and biotechnological basics for the solution of bioinformatic problems.
- explain the essential tasks and applied tools for the analysis of DNA, RNA and protein sequences.
- explain important bioinformatic databases and their architecture.
The lecture covers the following tasks:
- Introduction to Bioinformatics.
- Bioinformatic Servers and Databases
- Tools and algorithms for finding DNA, RNA and protein sequence similarities.
- Introduction to applied bioinformatics of the genome, transcriptome, proteome and metagenome.
- Models for molecular evolution and their calculation
The focus of the lecture is on developing the knowledge for the correct application of bioinformatic tools and programs.
- Lecture - Presentation of examples - Explanations based on questions asked
