After successful completion of the course, students are able to deal with the characteristic numbers of the kinetic gas theory (i.e. Maxwell velocity distribution, collision cross section, mean free path of atoms and molecules). They shall be able to apply these parameter to transport processes and to the chemical kinetics. Further, they can apply the Van der Waals equation for real gases.
The derivation of the physical correlations will be demonstrated at the black board. In parallel transparencies will be shown, which summarize the subject matter and present applied examples. Additionally, demonstration material will be presented such as a light mill, pressure sensors and a turbomolecular pump.
