Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply the discussed topics in an independent and sustainable manner, in order to solve fundamental and technological problems in "kinetics and catalysis" research.

Subject of course

1) Introduction (history of kinetics, nanotechnology and catalysis)
2) Basics of chemical kinetics (reaction rates, methods of measurement, chain reactions, explosions)
3) Collision theory (molecular beams), Eyring (transition state) theory, potential energy surfaces
4) Reactions in solution, photochemical processes
5) Homogeneous catalysis, enzyme kinetics
6) Heterogeneous catalysis (adsorption at surfaces, mechanisms)
7) Industrial-scale catalysis (synthesis gas, ammonia, water-gas shift)
8) Environmental catalysis (air, water treatment)
9) Methods in catalysis research (synthesis, physical-chemical characterization, in situ spectroscopy)
10) Catalysis on an atomic/molecular level

Teaching methods

Discussion of theoretical fundamentals and application to up-to-date exa,ples form research and development.
