After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand chemical reactions and chemical equilibra (acid/base, redox, precipitation and complexation) and to use these independently and target-oriented for the purpose of separating and identifying cations and anions in aqueous solutions, based on the application of the cation separation scheme and on individual identification reactions.
Due to the measures in response to the Corona pandemic, the lab exercise is held in the summer semester 2022 in three courses with up to 40 participants per course in the students laboratory in BB on fifth floor (BB05C01 and BB05C17). The course dates are
1st course: March 24 - April 29, 2022
2nd course: May 2 - May 24, 2022
3rd course: May 31 - June 27, 2022
The above-mentioned dates include the day used to take The first day of each course will also be used to take over the lab place; the last day of each course is reserved for returnuing the lab place. Each course has twelve working days with course times 12 noon to 5:30 pm, Tuesday through Friday.
If circumstances will allow this, the introductory meeting and the introductory test will be held in presence; further infromation on how to access these will be issued for each group separately. Attendance is compulsory.
Registration for the lab courses will remain open until ca. two weeks before the start of each lab course. When registering, please make your choice for one of the three courses. It is not necessary to register additionally to the lab course. We will try to accommodate your course date wish as far as this is possible. However, in view of filling all available lab places we reserve the right to move participants to another lab course.
In case there are more applications than lab places are available, then the following criteria will be applied for the ranking:
1) The date of the exam that qualifies you to participate in this lab course, i.e. the lecture course 164.053 "Analytical Chemistry I"
2) The grade of the exam that qualifies you to participate in this lab course (the lecture course 164.053 "Analytical Chemistry I")
3) The successful participation in courses from the Study Programme Entry and Orientation Phase (STEOP)
4) In case of equal rank in all categories 1-3, then the date of registration for this lab course is taken as the fourth and decisive criterion.
For the inventory of the working place, a deposit of Euro 50 is to be paid in the secretariate before the start of the lab course. This deposit will be returned aftr the end of th course provided the inventory has been returned copletely, in a clean and functional state.
Grading according to the success of the practical work, the introductory test and the overall impression based on the regular supervision.
The introductory test has to be passed successfully and all 5 samples have to be analysed correctly in order to complete the lab course successfully. The analysis of the 5 samples has to be completed within 12 working days, while the analysis of the 5. sample must be completed within one working day. In case of an incorrect analysis result, the analysis has to be repeated, resulting also in a downgrading of the mark by one grade.
In case of a failed introductory test, an oral exam has to be passed within the first five working days of the lab course.
The student must have at least 1 of the course(s) completed listed below:
