After successful completion of the course, students are able to read and understand crystallographic publications; apply the basics of symmetry theory; recognize and avoid common traps and pitalls (e.g. rhombohedral vs. trigonal).
Symmetry: Coordinate system and -transformation, point group operation, crystal system, Laue class, lattice, symmetry group
Diffraction: kinematical diffraction; wave vector; interference; reciprocal space; Fourier transformation; absences; phase problem; Patterson function
