After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the chemical and physical concepts behind the properties of advanced ceramics and metals and they can discuss what makes a material best suited for certain applications.
Teil I (together with part I of High Performance Ceramics) J. Fleig , 2SWS:
- Introduction, definition of advanced ceramics
- Important ceramics (Al2O3, ZrO2, ZnO, BaTiO3, Ferrites, SiC, AlN, PZT etc.)
- Structure property relations
- Properties (electrical, dielectric, thermal mechanical) and their applications
Part II, C. Edtmaier (1 SWS):
- Most important metallic materials and their commercial importance
- Principles of metal production and refinery including Richardson-Ellingham diagrams; Pourbaix diagrams
- Most important properties of metals and processing of metals

Two parts:
Part I (Fleig): Absolvierung einer schriftlichen Prüfung (Dauer 2 Stunden), Im WS 2021 online (open book) über TUWEL (inkl. Anmeldung in TUWEL)
Im SS 2022 finden diese Prüfungen in Präsenz statt. Es handelt sich um "Open book-Prüfungen", d.h. die Verwendung des ausgedruckten Skripts, eigener Aufzeichnungen, Bücher, Taschenrechner, etc. ist erlaubt, jedoch kein Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone. NB: Wirklich benötigt werden umfangreichere schriftliche Unterlagen für einen sehr guten Abschluss der Prüfung aber nicht...
