Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe the production of different hard and superhard materials but also its characteristic properties. Therefore the student can assign hard materials to its applications.

Subject of course

Synthesis / properties / applications of hard materials (WC, TiC, TiN, Ti(C,N), Al2O3, SiC, B4C, ...) and superhard materials (diamond and c-BN)

Teaching methods

The course contents are conveyed via classroom lectures. The presented slides are provided electronically before start of the course. Videos about the applications of hard materials are presented. In addition, representative showpieces are presented during lectures, if suitable.
