Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to perform experimental work in the field of macromolecular chemistry, renewable resources and also the corresponding basic analytical methods

Examination modalities

5 experiments have to be carried out and the products obtained have to be characterized. The theoretical basis and practical implementation of the individual synthetic examples are checked in a preliminary meeting before the start of the experimental work to ensure that the students are able to successfully carry out the experiment. When dispensing the preparation, the laboratory journal, yield, properties and purity of the products are checked and evaluated. A protocol for the preparation of the experiment and the analysis of the analytical data must be written for each experiment. After all experimental work has been completed, two debriefings (one on renewable materials / dyes and one on polymers) must be held, in which problems with the experimental part, the protocol and the analytical evaluations are discussed with the students. After the debriefing there is again the opportunity to improve the minutes and thus the grade. The grade of the laboratory exercise results from the mean of the individual grades of the experiments, which result from the partial grades for the preliminary discussion, execution of the experiment (yield and purity of the products) and the protocol with a weighting of 3: 3: 4. For a positive overall assessment, all partial performances must be positive, whereby negative partial performances can be corrected by repetition.
