Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the basics of fluidized bed technology and to perform calculations on individual characteristic properties (e.g. fluid dynamics, heat transfer, material transfer). In addition, students can lay out and dimension simple fluidized bed systems. After attending the lecture, students can assess the feasibility of fluidized bed technology for industrial processes relatively accurately and assess the possibilities and limits.

Part A: Fundamentals Characterization of particles Fluid-dynamics of fluidized beds (minimum fluidization velocity, terminal velocity, flow diagrams) Design of gas distributor Two phase theory Bubbles in fluidized beds Particle mixing Entrainment and elutriation Heat transfer Mass transfer Circulating fluidized beds. Part B: Applications Drying Mixing Adsorption Agglomeration Combustion Gasification Calcination Applications in steel industry Applications in petroleum industy Applications in chemical industry
