Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to determine fundamental reactor physics, to specify energy ranges of different reactors and their neutrons, to explain reactor poisoning, to analyse short- and long-term behaviour of reactors as well as to describe the reactor accidents in Tschernobyl, TMI and Fukushima.


Subject of course

Features of a nuclear chain reaction, neutron moderation, neutron diffusion, critical equation, critical masses, poisoning, Inhour equation, safety aspects.

Teaching methods

Calculation of examples, interpretation of graphs.
