Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able

  • to apply finite Lorentz transformations,
  • to analyze Maxwell equations and their solutions in relativistic formulations,
  • to set up and solve Euler-Lagrangian equations of motion for relativistic particles and fields,
  • to apply the Lagrange formalism with contraints,
  • to derive Noether currents from symmetries of the Lagrangian,
  • to derive theories resulting from spontaneous symmetry breaking and
  • to calculate the radiation and absorption properties of matter.

Subject of course

Application and illustration of the material offered in the lecture "Electrodynamics II" using exercises and application examples.

Teaching methods

Students are given lecture-related exercises. They prepare and upload them independently within a week and then present their solutions on the blackboard (if possible) or online in front of the group.

Written and oral
