After successful completion of the course, students are able to work independently in a cell culture lab. They have mastered aseptic techniques as well as basic cell culture techniques such as cell passaging, cryopreservation and cell counting.
This course provides an introduction to mammalian cell culture, covering topics such as laboratory setup, aseptic techniques and safety aspects. Students will perform the following techniques on both adherent and suspension cell lines: passaging and feeding of cells, microscopic evaluation of confluence and morphology, and cell counting. Further, students will perform metabolic activity assays.
The contents of the laboratory course are conveyed by a working instruction and the exercises described therein. An instructor will show and supervise small groups of students.
