  • Format: Hybrid

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the different kinds of electrical gas discharges by taking into account the plasma surface and volume processes. Furthermore, they are able to explain the functionality of plasma apparatus used for treatment of materials, e.g. cutting, structuring, surface modification, deposition, welding. Furthermore, the students have an understandig of plasma chemical conversion of matter.

Subject of course

Introduction to gas discharge physics, generation of cold plasmas (glow discharges), application of cold plasmas for processing and synthesis, generation of thermal plasmas (arc discharges), application of thermal plasmas for processing and synthesis.

Teaching methods

Teaching of the basics of plasma technology and plasma chemistry through oral lectures and short movies for demonstration.
