Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to critically evaluate the suitability of modern materials characterization techniques for a variety of applications in fundamental and applied research.

Subject of course

Overview of contemporary methods for sample characterization using physics-based techniques.  The emphasis is on methods available at the TU Wien.  The lecturers are striving for a balanced presentation of methods,  their underlying physical phenomena, and relevant applications.

Teaching methods

Lecture with digital presentations of the physics behind the various techniquesand their technical implementation.   Supplemented with blackboard drawings to describe various processes.  Instrumentation, or parts of instrumentation, are shown in class to exemplify the technical realization.

Mode of examination

Written
