After successful completion of the course, students are able to comprehend the materials presented in the lecture and to draw conclusions from them, as well as to actively communicate the contents presented during the lecture.
Some of the most exciting phenomena in solids (quantum criticality, superconductivity, quantum Hall effect, ...) are a direct consequence of the quantum nature of matter. We are currently investigating "strongly correlated" materials where exotic effects such as diverging effective charge carrier masses, superconductivity mediated by quantum fluctuations, or discontinuous Fermi surface changes are observed. The electronic, thermal and magnetic properties of such materials are investigated down to very low (15 milliKelvin) and, in near future, even down to ultra low temperatures (several 100 microKelvin). The students will take part in this research. You will be working in a highly dynamic and international team!
