Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • find, access and excerpt relevant literature in the context of the bachelor thesis
  • plan and perform applied and theoretical research based on the methods learned in the bachelor programme
  • defining a scientific question and being able to interpret and conclude on results derived from literature review and own research, and
  • express the work in a scientific manner.

Subject of course

Guided by a supervisor, the bachelor thesis is executed individually by the student. The bachelor thesis consists of practical and/or theoretical work as well as the preparation of the written summary – the actual bachelor thesis. The thesis can be supplemented by texts, computer programs, data sets or other formats.

Teaching methods

Independent scientific work in geodesy and geoinformation in agreement with the supervisor:

  • discussion with the supervisor about planned and executed work steps

  • execution of research in scientific literature, experiments, simulations etc. suitable for the topic of the bachelor thesis

  • critical review of own work and discussion of the findings with the supervisor, discussion about occurring problems, if any

  • creating the thesis structure and writing the thesis

  • handling correction or improvement suggestions of the supervisor

The bachelor thesis has to be presented and defended in front of experts in the field during the course “Presentation of the Bachelor Thesis”.
