Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to correctly apply the central concepts and computational techniques of the course. This includes the ability to understand and to explain these concepts and techniques. The following topics are included:

  • real and complex numbers,
  • solving equations and inequalities,
  • elementary vector calculus and geometry,
  • limits and convergence,
  • sequences and series,
  • functions (general functions, elementary functions, continuity),
  • differential calculus for functions of a real variable,
  • integral calculus for functions of a real variable.

Subject of course

Real and complex numbers, elementary vector calculus and geometry, sets and functions, limits and convergence, sequences and series, functions of a real variable, differential- and integral calculus for functions of one real variable.

Teaching methods

In class the notions, concepts and methods of the above-mentionend mathematical topics are motivated, explained and illustrated through examples. Lecture notes and suitable textbooks should be used in addition.

Mode of examination

Written

Additional information
