Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to correctly apply the central concepts and computational techniques of the course. This includes  (to a lesser degree) the ability to understand and explain these concepts and techniques. The following topics are included:

  • real and complex numbers
  • solving equations and inequalities
  • elementary vector calculus and geometry
  • limits and convergence
  • sequences and series
  • functions (general functions, elementary functions, continuity)
  • differential calculus for functions of a real variable
  • integral calculus for functions of a real variable.

Subject of course

Real and complex numbers, elementary vector calculus and geometry, sets and functions, limits and convergence, sequences and series, functions of a real variable,  differential- and integral calculus for functions of a real variable

Teaching methods

In class the concepts and methods are motivated, explained and illustrated through examples. Lecture notes and suitable textbooks should be used in addition.

Mode of examination
