Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • Name the typical tasks of numerical mathematics and discuss the problem.
  • Using numerical methods and concepts and being able to adapt them to different situations in simulation technology.
  • Conceptually reproduce and analyze the construction of numerical algorithms.
  • Able to adapt numerical methods and procedures to given situations.
  • Find out various numerical problems and aspects of simulation models and develop an associated solution strategy.
  • To discuss the influence of numerical mathematics qualitatively and quantitatively.
  • Compare and categorize numerical algorithms and apply them in various situations

Subject of course

  • Calibration of models
  • Systems of linear equations
  • Least squares problem
  • Nonlinear systems of equations
  • Numerical differentiation
  • Ordinary differential equations
  • Hybrid models
  • Differential algebraic models
  • Partial differential equations
  • Numerical methods in data modelling

Teaching methods

Lecture on the introduction to the facts and presentation of the concepts and methods, presentation and discussion of the basic algorithms. First introductory examples support the introduction and consolidation and represent the bridge to the tasks in the associated exercises.

Mode of examination

Oral

Additional information

The course will be delivered by hybrid teaching, i.e. the lecture will be partially mapped by videos and on-site meetings. Detailed information is available in the associated TUWEL course and the preliminary meeting.
