After successful completion of the course, students are able to carry out assigned tasks independently, paying particular attention to gender aspects. In addition, the students dealt with the current situation of women* and men* at the Faculty of Technical Chemistry and on the job market.
By working on gender-relevant projects, students gain competencies in the field of gender-sensitive organizational development and project management. Collegial exchange in a gender-sensitive working environment stimulates the students’ personal reflection process.
Working in a network like FemChem requires a structured working practice and regular checks on the progress of individual projects. Students participate in regular coordination meetings and independently undertake planning tasks. They are familiar with using MS Teams communication tool and know how to use it to design internal communication in a team. They are able to use the tool for planning and conducting efficient meetings, creating agendas, managing and collaborating on data.
FemChem is the women's network at the Faculty of Technical Chemistry that deals with topics such as equal opportunities, raising awareness, and promoting young talents. As a network, we heavily rely on the collaboration of students. Participation in this women's network is set out to highlight the opportunities and challenges for women in science. New project ideas may also be proposed and developed.
Examples of tasks and responsibilities include
In the first group appointment, the context of the work topic is expanded and the seminar leader provides input on the content. The introductory lectures cover topics of gender competence, an overview of the structure and working methods of the FemChem network and the basic concepts of (gender-sensitive) organizational development.
This is followed by the individual assignment to individual or small group work according to the work areas of FemChem or to specific task forces for cross-departmental projects/events within FemChem.
Over the course of the semester, individually assigned planning and implementation tasks are carried out.
Written final report or presentation
The number of participants is limited to 15.
Registration takes place in TISS and for the application please send a letter of motivation no longer than half A4 page (English or German) to femchem_LVA@list.tuwien.ac.at.
In the letter of motivation, the applicants should explain and justify why they would like to take part in this course and what expectations and goals they are pursuing.
